The Timeline block in Frontly lets you create a clean, interactive Gantt-style chart that visually maps your project tasks or events across time. It’s perfect for project planning, roadmaps, construction schedules, or any time-based workflow.

Like all blocks in Frontly, the timeline block includes access to styling and display conditions, so you can customize how it looks and when it appears on the page. Since it's a data display block, it also supports action triggers, filtering (both visible and hidden), and provides access to the Detail View for viewing or editing a clicked record’s full data.

Notable Features

🕒 Simple Setup with Time Mapping

To get started, connect your Timeline block to a data source that includes time-based data. Then configure:

  • Start Date and End Date to define the bar's range

  • Time Unit to control the timeline’s scale (choose from Day, Week, Month, or Year)

  • Event Label to show the name or phase on the bar

  • Grouping Field to define the row groupings (e.g. by task, milestone, assignee, etc.)

This setup gives you full control over how your timeline displays and organizes events.

🎨 Themed Visual Styling

While custom colour mappings aren’t currently available, you can choose from a set of preset themes under the block’s Styling tab. These themes apply to the event bars on the timeline and help visually distinguish phases or categories.

⚙️ Action Support

Like other data display blocks, the Timeline block supports record click actions.
You can configure actions to run when a user clicks on a specific bar, such as opening the Detail View or triggering another action in your app.
